48 Hour Film Contest

One of the most exciting aspects of the Tallahassee Film Festival is the 48-HR Film Contest. If you love movies and think you’d like to make a movie or if you are a seasoned professional looking for some local recognition…filmmakers of all experience levels will love participating in the 2012 48-HR Film Contest.

REGISTRATION: To enter, you must complete a registration form, a hold harmless agreement and submit your entry fee of $50.00 per team. Teams may consist of up to 5 individuals. You may register in advance by completing our online form or in person from 5PM to 7PM on Friday, November 2nd in the lobby of The Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science. There will be no registrations allowed after 7PM on 11/2 unless there are some still in process of completion, on site, in which case orientation will be postponed until all persons in attendance are registered.

CATEGORIES: There will be three categories for participating teams:

YOUTH is defined as non-professional film- makers under the age of 21.

AMATEUR is defined as filmmakers over the age of 21 who have NEVER received compensation for ANY professional film services.

PROFESSIONAL is defined as filmmakers over the age of 21 who HAVE received compensation for ANY professional film services.

If your team consists of any combination of professional and amateur filmmakers, your category is “Professional”.

ORIENTATION: An optional orientation takes place Friday, November 2nd, from 5PM to 7PM. Film Festival Board Members invite you to join them at The Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science, first floor meeting room, for this introduction to the contest. You are not required to attend the orientation to enter but IT IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED as the orientation will provide some insights for successful entrants.

RULES & REQUIRED ELEMENTS: At 7PM on November 2nd, both at the orientation and on-line, there will be a simultaneous release of the three required elements for each film entry:

Each of these must be addressed in your submission or your entry will be disqualified.

Your entry may not exceed 5 minutes. If it does, it will be disqualified. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.

All finished work MUST BE SUBMITTED on or before 7PM, Sunday, November 4th, 2012. This year for the first time ALL SUBMISSIONS will only be accepted electronically by download to specified web address/addresses. ALL QUALIFIED FILMS will be posted on the Tallahassee Democrat’s website, www.tallahassee.com

AWARDS: A panel of film reviewers including non-competing professional filmmakers and film critics will determine winners of each aforementioned category.

Winning teams in each category will receive a cash prize of $100, bragging rights and a trophy.

AUDIENCE CHOICE: The film with the most on-line votes will win the AUDIENCE CHOICE category. This category will be determined exclusively by public vote. Voting will take place once the entries are posted on the Tallahassee Democrat website.

Friends, family and the community will have the opportunity to vote beginning November 9th at 7PM until November 16th at 7PM. Only one vote per person will be counted.
